Grays Fall in Walk-Off Loss to Aces After Ninth-Inning Standoff
After returning to the field Friday night following nearly a week of rainouts, the DC Grays were back on the road Saturday for a matchup against the Alexandria Aces at Frank Mann Field. In a tightly contested game dominated by pitching and defense, the Grays came up just short—falling 2–1 on a walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth.
Kimani Davis (Xavier, LA) got the start and was outstanding for six full innings. The right-hander struck out seven and held the Aces to just one run, which came in the first on a throwing error after a double and aggressive baserunning.
The Grays quickly responded in the top of the second. After a walk by Carter Jenkins (Nicholls State) and a single from Eli Owens (Washington & Jefferson), Luke Caucci (Lafayette) delivered a perfectly placed infield hit to bring in Jenkins and tie the game at 1–1.
From there, both sides locked in. Davis kept the Aces off the board with the help of a stellar defensive effort—highlighted by quick reactions from Caucci at third, smart plays up the middle by Noel Rivera (Marist) and Ryan Soong (Washington University), and a standout catch in right field by Marc Quarrie (Wofford).
Brady Myers (Lock Haven) and Anders Ahladas (Randolph-Macon) combined to hold the Aces scoreless through the seventh and eighth, but trouble found the Grays in the bottom of the ninth. A leadoff double, followed by two walks, loaded the bases. A final walk brought in the winning run and sealed a walk-off loss for DC.
The Grays fall to 5–5 on the season but continue to show grit and resilience through a packed schedule and challenging conditions.
They'll look to bounce back at home on Sunday, June 22nd at 1 p.m. against the South County Braves.
