Grays Stay Motivated After Postponed Games
By Matt Rosenthal
Due to a spell of inclement weather in the DMV, the Grays had seven consecutive games postponed. From June 13 to June 19, just six games were played league wide. In the weeks since, countless more games have been postponed.
A week off right as the season was getting into the thick of things would likely throw a wrench into any momentum a team had going. However, the Grays have held steady since returning, keeping a .500 record and holding onto a playoff spot.
Here is how the Grays stayed motivated during the time away.
Head coach Jack Besser credits staying on top of workouts and getting time in the batting cage thanks to Diamond Heroes in Fairfax, VA.
"It just is reminding guys [that this is] like starting the season a second time," Coach Besser said. "That it's going to take a second to find your footing and really be able to compete against some great pitching."
Ty Morris (Marist) started the first game back against the Thunderbolts on June 20. He pitched seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts, earning him Pitcher of the Week honors.
"I felt more prepared than I've ever had before," said Morris. "Just having that time to crush my body and recovery lift and have those extra days to get my throwing in and be prepared mentally and physically, just preparing my body as well."
1B/P Ethan Nagy (Lock Haven) added how it is important to come together as a team and perform as best as they can.
Come see the DC Grays take on the Silver Spring-Tacoma Thunderbolts Monday at 7:00 pm at Woodbridge High School.
