Grays Fall to Senators in Rain-Shortened Game
WALDORF, MD — On a stormy Thursday night at the home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in Waldorf, the D.C. Grays dropped their fifth straight game in an 8-1 loss to the Senators. The game was called after five innings due to inclement weather, and with no remaining makeup dates on the schedule, it was ruled official.
The Senators jumped ahead early, plating a run in each of the first two innings before erupting for six runs in the fourth, taking advantage of Grays' miscues and a string of well-timed hits. D.C. cut the deficit briefly in the top of the third, when Andy Rivera (Holy Family) scored on a passed ball after a pinch-hit single, but the offense stalled from there.
Ty Morris (Marist) got the start for the Grays and allowed just one earned run over three innings of work. Dean Qira (Stevens) entered in relief in the fourth but ran into trouble as the Senators extended their lead.
Joe Marini (Seton Hall) continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-3 to raise his average to .286. Rivera, Joey Chitla (Wofford), and Ryan Soong (WashU) (who reached base twice via walks) also contributed at the plate.
The Grays fell to 14-18 on the season with just a handful of games left in the regular season. They'll aim to snap the losing streak tomorrow in their road game against the Alexandria Aces at
6:30pm.
