Late Rally Falls Short as Grays Drop 7–4 Decision to Senators
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays' offense picked up late in today's game against the Sothern Maryland Senators, however it proved to be not enough in the end.
This game started as many others have for the Grays this season, with neither team scoring in the 1st inning. The Senators got on the scoreboard first, scoring 2 runs in the second inning.
After both teams went without any score in the third and fourth inning, the Grays got going on offense, with Connor Lawrence (Marist) and Joey Chitla (William & Mary) both scoring runs off an error at first base.
The Senators immediately scored 1 run in the fifth inning and another 2 in the sixth inning to get the score to 5-2.
The Grays were able to get back on the board with Joey Chitla (William & Mary) hitting a single to score Ethan Fox-Hernandez (Vassar) in the seventh inning. They continued their comeback in the eighth inning, with Caden Brown (Southern) hitting a sacrifice fly to score Evan Wilson (Richmond).
The Senators would then proceed to score 2 runs to end the eighth inning to bring the game to 7-4. This ended up as the final score with the Grays being unable to score any runs in the ninth inning.
Joey Chitla (William & Mary) had another impressive game offensively for the Grays, hitting 3-4, scoring a run, and driving in a RBI. Ethan Fox-Hernandez (Vassar) also had a solid performance in his season debut, going 1-3 from the plate and scoring a run.
The Grays play 6/9 against the Alexandria Aces, looking to get back in the win column at Robert J. Talbot Field.
