Shenman Homer Sparks Six-Run Third, but Grays Fall to Aces
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays started this game off strong, but couldn't keep pace with the Aces' scoring, losing 19-7 at their home stadium.
This game started with the Aces getting out to an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the first inning and another 3 in the second to go up 6-0. After another 2 runs from the Aces to start the third inning, the Grays had arguably their best inning on offense of the season.
Parker Shenman (Catholic) got this inning started off hot for the Grays, nailing a ball over the left field fence for the team's second home run of the year. The Grays would use the momentum of this home run to continue scoring, with the next run coming from a Xavier Bradley (Southern) double to score Evan Wilson (Richmond).
Xavier Bradley (Southern) and Aaron Rowell (Pensacola State) were next on the board, both scoring off a triple from Ryan Stoddard (Lafayette). Stoddard (Lafayette) was then driven in on a double from Drew Rybinski (Georgetown). Rybinski (Georgetown) was the last to score on the inning, coming off of a Peyton Ford (Cal U of Penn) single.
At this point in the game, the red hot bats of the Aces took over, with their lead ballooning to 16-6 going into the ninth inning. They tacked on 3 more runs in the ninth and the Grays were able to get a score via an Aaron Rowell (Pensacola State) sacrifice fly to bring home Evan Wilson (Richmond).
While this wasn't the game the Grays wanted, it didn't go without some impressive performance. Parker Shenman (Catholic) had a great game, hitting 1-2 with the solo home run as well as having a walk. Drew Rybinski (Georgetown) also looked impressive, going 2-2 at bat, scoring a run, and driving in a RBI.
The Grays look to shake this game off and get back in the win column 6/10 at the Gaithersburg Giants in Kelley Park.
