Devillier Shines Through Six Strong Innings, Grays Fall to Big Train 10-0
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays had a strong start defensively to this game, but couldn't amount enough offense in the end, losing to the Bethesda Big Train 10-0 at Robert J. Talbot Field.
Starting pitcher Coen Devillier (Catholic) got the Grays' defense to a great start, not allowing any runs on only 2 hits in the first two innings. Freeman Hunt (Dickinson) had an amazing highlight play in the first inning diving to catch a fly ball in foul territory in left field.
The Big Train scored 2 runs in the third inning, however Devillier (Catholic) didn't allow any hits in the inning. Neither team would score for the next three innings and Coen Devillier (Catholic) would end his day with a stellar game of 6 innings, only 2 hits, and 4 strikeouts on 21 batters faced.
The Grays offense never was able to get going in this game unfortunately, as they struggled at getting hits with runners in scoring position. The Big Train's offense would pick up in the seventh, scoring 3 runs.
The Big Train would continue to build off this frame, scoring 3 more runs in the eighth inning and 2 more in the ninth to end the game at 10-0.
The Grays had some great performances in spite of this defeat, however. Evan Wilson (Richmond) led the way, going 2-2 at the plate and got on base with 2 walks as well. Hartley Rahman(Catawba) also showed some promise, hitting 2-5 with a stolen base.
The Grays look to put this loss behind them 6/17 when they go to Alexandria to play the Aces at 6:30PM at Frank Mann Field.
