Corbin's Masterpiece Seals Doubleheader Sweep for Grays
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays were able to get a huge defensive win in the second game of their double-header 2-1 against the Gaithersburg Giants.
This game was an absolute defensive masterpiece, with neither team scoring in the first 4 innings, although D.C had multiple times with loaded bases that Gaithersburg wouldn't let them take advantage of.
The Grays would finally be the first on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Beny Bikar Jr. (Southern) scoring Jackson Stallworth (Pensacola State) on a sacrifice fly. The Giants would score a run to tie the game in the sixth inning and this was the point when the Grays subbed out starter Simon Corbin (Macalester).
Corbin (Macalester) ended his day with a statline of 6 innings pitched, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run unearned along with 7 strikeouts in an absolute masterclass.
D.C would then retake the lead on a Jackson Stallworth (Pensacola State) sacrifice fly to score Travis Church (Marist). The Grays would put in Casey Edwards (Washington College) who would get the save, not allowing any runs, with the Grays winning the game 2-1.
The Grays have their next game 6/21 against the Southern Maryland Senators at North Point High School in Waldorf, MD.
