Late Rally Sinks Grays 5–3 in Doubleheader Finale Against Braves
By: Ethan Wentworth
The Grays had their second game of their doubleheader and were unfortunately defeated 5-3 at South County High School in a close match-up against the Braves due to cold bats.
The Braves were first on the board, scoring a run in the 1st inning. The Grays would immediately respond to tie the game 1-1 on a bases loaded walk by Freeman Hunt (Dickinson) to score Jackson Loomis (Denison).
After a scoreless 2nd inning on both sides, the Grays would score 2 runs in the 3rd via a Drew Rybinski (Georgetown) single to score Carter Sweeney-Strawberry (Rutgers) and a Freeman Hunt (Dickinson) sacrifice fly to score Rybinski (Georgetown) respectively. This would be the last run the Grays would score on this game, leaving it up to their defense to hold onto the lead.
After the Braves would score a run in the 5th inning to get within 1, the game would go into the final frame 2-3. Unfortunately after some solid hitting from the Braves and not being able to execute at the plate, the Grays would lose 5-3 in the second game of their double header.
While the team didn't have the strongest day hitting, they were still some encouraging individual performances. Drew Rybinski (Georgetown) had a good day, hitting 1-1, driving in a RBI, and scoring a run. Carter Sweeney-Strawberry (Rutgers) demonstrated solid patience at the plate, receiving 2 walks and scoring a run.
The Grays look to get a big win against Southern Maryland at Robert J. Talbot Field 7/15 at 7PM.
