Grays’ Season Comes to a Close in 6-1 Loss to Aces

The Grays' offense was never able to get going in this game and their season ended in a 6-1 loss to the Aces.

Coen Devillier (Catholic) would be the first on the mound for the Grays and would get them off to a solid start in a scoreless first inning. The Grays' offense started the second inning off nicely with a Peyton Ford (U Cal of Penn) double and Jackson Loomis (Denison) single to get 2 on base with no outs, though the Grays weren't able to capitalize on this situation.

This would be a common theme in this game, as the Grays would struggle to get the ball in play when they had runners in scoring position, including bases loaded in the 6th inning. On the other side, the Aces would heat up on offense, scoring 2 runs in the 2nd, 1 in the 4th, and 3 in the 5th frame to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

Reliever Noah Bagby (Southern) would come into the game in the bottom of the 5th and put together an impressive outing, going 3 innings with only 2 hits allowed and no runs along with 2 strikeouts. In spite of this impressive pitching in these innings, the Grays would struggle to get on the board, even with multiple players getting to third during the frames. Simon Corbin (Macalester) would impress as a reliever as well, not allowing any hits and punching in 2 strikeouts in his lone inning of work.

The Grays would get on the board in the top of the 9th, with Freeman Hunt (Dickinson) getting to home plate on an error from the 3rd baseman. Unfortunately this would prove to be too little too late, and the Grays would be eliminated at Frank Mann Field in a 6-1 loss to the Aces.

Peyton Ford (U Cal of Penn) would lead the way for the team, hitting 2-4 including an early double for D.C. Jackson Loomis (Denison) would end his season off right, going 2-4 from the dish with a pair of singles. Freeman Hunt (Dickinson) would be the lone run scored for the Grays, also hitting 1-2 and receiving 2 walks.
